CampSoul Music and War Child Canada “Turn it Up!”

Toronto, ON. October 12, 2006 – CampSoul Music, an independent Toronto urban label, has joined forces with War Child Canada (WCC) to raise money and awareness in support of war-affected children in war-torn areas around the world.

On October 31st, 2006, CampSoul Music will exclusively release to iTunes, “Turn it Up!” a track produced by CampSoul Music and performed by label artists, Tonya Renée and Joe Louis. The track will be an extended promotion of WCC’s annual Keep the Beat campaign, which is War Child Canada’s music marathon fundraiser involving individuals, schools, businesses and entire communities who keep the music going constantly from 1 to 24 hours. All of the proceeds raised through Keep the Beat events and from the “Turn it Up!” track will go directly to helping war-affected children though WCC’s international projects.

War Child Canada is a registered Canadian charity that provides urgently needed humanitarian assistance for war-affected children worldwide. WCC not only provides emergency relief, but also spearheads meaningful development projects through local partner organizations in countries experiencing violent conflict such as Afghanistan, Colombia, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, and Sudan. Domestically, they reach out to youth and empower and inspire them to raise awareness about the impacts of war on children, and to become catalysts for positive change in their own communities.

Producer and label CEO, Russell Morgan feels extremely close to the project and states, “Children who are victims of warfare have been overlooked for years now. I am also guilty of such ignorance and now after learning more and more about the cause I felt that it was a positive move for me and my team to contribute in any which way we could.”

The content of the hip-hop/pop song addresses the issues occurring in war torn areas across the world, and call youth to action. Writer and performer, Tonya Renée comments, “I wrote this song and made specific references to the lifestyle that these children have to endure so that I could get the ‘real’ message across to as many people as possible.”

The track and campaign is not only a call to action for the youth of Canada, but for other artists as well to get involved and use their voice to influence their audiences. “We have to help,” states rapper Joe Louis, “we influence change through hip hop music…we as musicians have to come together and try to influence the lives of others.”

War Child Canada often seeks the aid of musicians to spread the word about the issues they stand for. WCC’s Heather Orrange states, “WCC relies greatly on the generosity of others, and particularly on the generosity of artists who creatively spread the word about global justice issues and WCC’s programming. CampSoul Music is an amazing example of the commitment made by local musicians to use their talents for positive social change. It is our hope here at WCC that “Turn it Up!” will not only raise awareness about the challenges facing people living through violent conflict, but that it will also inspire people living here in Canada to take action by “Keeping The Beat” and doing their part to help war-affected children.”
